| A photocopy of the mission plan for the February 25, 1944 raid on
the Furth airfield near Nurnburg, the last of "Big Week." The Egan
crew flew second position, behind an H2X radar equipped B-24 with
a Lt. Col command pilot in the right seat. The weather was so clear
(extremely unusual for flying weather in the ETO) that pilot Bob Egan
could clearly see from the Baltic to the Mediterranean from 22,000
feet. He recalls seeing U. S. bombers flying out of bases in Italy
strike their targets as well. Bombing results were excellent because
snow, which fell the day before, completely obliterated German camouflage
of the target. Marks on the right are of a crewman's boot print. |
